For those without kids from age 3-14, Miley Cyrus (daughter of Billy Ray “Achy Breaky Heart” Cyrus) has a show on the Disney Channel in which she portrays pop singer Hannah Montana. The show is huge, she sells out tours, scalpers love her…even if you don’t have kids, chances are you’ve heard about her on the net or in the news.
Well, recently they released a digital 3D movie of one of her shows, and since tickets to the actual show were next to impossible to get, we decided to kill a few hours at the movie today. My wife was out with the girls, and we agreed to meet up at the theater. I went in to buy the tickets, told the girl “Two adults & two kids”. She rang up the tic’s, and said “OK, that’ll be $16” Not too bad for a matinee I thought. Then she gives me the slip to sign for my bank card, and the amount is $60. “YOU SAID $60?!?!” I gasped. She said “yes, we don’t set the prices, Disney does”.
After picking my jaw up off the counter, I reluctantly signed, got my 4 pair of 3D glasses, and away we went. The 3D is much better than when I was a kid, and the effect was OK, not great. The movie was only 74 minutes, and a good chunk of that was cutesy little “behind the scenes” crap. The girls liked it fine, but I could have stayed home & been out $15 less. I spent the entire time thinking “I just spent $60 for my family to see a !%&*#@ movie!”
Oh well, as long as Ms. Cyrus doesn’t turn out to be another Lindsay, Paris, Brittney, Jamie Lynn…etc.
